"Real Support" (behind the scenes)

That phrase, “Real Support,” forms the foundation of our commitment to our patients. We diligently practice and work to support our Clinic’s motto: “Real Support, Real Results, and Real Transformations.”

We genuinely care about each of our patients and will go above and beyond to ensure their success. Below is an example of the support we provide, which we have done repeatedly for various patients.

Putting in this effort appears to be a no-brainer to us. However, we frequently receive feedback from our patients who have visited other places. They are genuinely surprised by the comprehensive services and offerings we provide compared to their previous providers, especially the online ones.

 Meet Patient "HH"....

Recently, a patient named “HH” reached a plateau where her weight had remained stagnant for several weeks. This is one of those common questions that we frequently encounter, so we decided to address it by adding two articles to our blog site. These articles delve into the most prevalent cases of weight loss plateaus.

In the case of Patient “HH” we believed her plateau could be caused by the challenges discussed in Part 1 – Calorie Deficits.

We requested her to track her meals for a few days and provide us with a list of what she ate. Our staff would then analyze the list to determine the calorie counts, protein grams, fat grams, and other relevant information.

This was the list she was able to provide us:

·       1-24 Lobster bisque soup small Poki at BJs Grapes 2 vodka sodas with lime

·       1-25 Fig Bar, Banana, 10 tortilla chips/salsa, 2 bowls of homemade beef stew

·       1-26 Kind Bar, breakfast honey oat, Salad at Cheesecake Factory Chop chicken lunch size Finish salad for dinner About 10 wheat thins

·       1-27 Blueberries That's It fruit bar Cup of left over steak stew Green grapes Side salad Chicken pad tai from Costco Vodka soda

·       1-28 Kind Bar Honey Oat 1/2 yogurt Grapes 10 wheat thins Cheese stick Side salad Raviolis no sauce

With her food diary in hand, we gathered the staff and began analyzing the data as best we could. It was a bit of a challenge, but we managed to arrive at this approximation, which we shared with “HH”:

We are now able to use the key biometrics of the Patient, along with data that we acquire from http://TDEEcalculator.net to identify what the patient’s Base Metabolic Rate is – that’s how many calories your individual body needs to survive without gaining or losing weight.

In this patient’s case her BMR is 1866 calories.

We have the below internal program that helps us determine based on a patient’s BMR what their optimal calories should be – and in this case it should be between ~1300 and ~1500 calories.

Our Internal Program to identify optimal calorie ranges based on BMWR
Our Internal Program to identify optimal calorie ranges based on BMWR

When we review the daily average in the food journal, we can observe that this patient is occasionally consuming only 50% or less of the calories required to support their Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is pushing their body into Starvation/Survival Mode. Consequently, weight loss will not resume until they can increase their calorie intake by approximately 300 to 500 calories, allowing their body to feel ‘safe’ and initiate fat shedding.

As mentioned at the outset, our primary objective is to provide every possible support to ensure the success of our patients on their journey. In some cases, this may involve advising them to consume more calories, even if it means deviating from their current caloric intake.

While these investigations require considerable time and effort, they are an essential component of our commitment to each patient. I believe they contribute to the distinction between our Clinic and other establishments that prioritize rapid medication dispensing instead of prioritizing on Patient Results.

We are grateful for the trust each patient places in us and we promise we will do eveyrthing we can to help them be successful - even if that means tracking down the calorie counts on Chicken Pad Thai and Vodka Soda's :-)

Thanks -

Daryl Welsh - Clinic Director.
