Medical Weight Loss Consultation Guide

Hey everyone -
People always ask me what actually happens at a first consult. So I figured I'd write a quick note about it.
Short version: it's not a sales pitch. It's us sitting down with you, looking at your full health picture, and figuring out if a medically supervised plan makes sense for you. That's it.
Here's the thing — most people who come to our clinic have already tried everything. Restrictive diets. Commercial programs. Intense workouts. And they're frustrated because they lost weight and gained it back. I get it. I've been there myself.
So when you come in for a consult, we're not starting from zero. We're starting from your history.
What do we look at? Your weight history. Current medications. Medical conditions. Family history. Previous attempts. We'll ask about cravings, sleep, stress, energy levels. If you've lost weight before and regained it — that matters. It tells us something about how your body responds.
We also do measurements — weight, vitals. And at both our Puyallup and Federal Way clinics, we use Styku 3D body scanners. That's important because the scale is diabolical. You can be losing fat and gaining muscle and the scale doesn't budge. The scanner tells the real story.
Then we talk goals. Not fantasy goals — real ones. Maybe you want to reduce joint pain. Fit into clothes comfortably. Feel in control around food again. We translate those into a plan that's actually measurable.
If GLP-1 medications (Semaglutide or Tirzepatide) are part of the conversation, we'll cover how they work, typical results, side effects, and follow-up care. But here's what I always tell people — medication is one tool, not the whole strategy.
Long-term success comes from ongoing medical oversight, nutrition guidance, and coaching. If a clinic just hands you a prescription and sends you home, that's a problem.
And honestly — you should be evaluating us too. Ask questions. How are plans customized? How often are follow-ups? What progress tracking do you use beyond the scale? What happens if side effects come up? What's the pricing — any contracts or hidden fees? (We don't do contracts or membership fees, by the way. Not ever.)
Come prepared but don't stress about having perfect answers. Bring your medication list, a general sense of your weight history, and any questions you have. Most importantly, come ready to be honest. Tell us what's worked and what hasn't. Say if you're scared of regaining weight. We're not looking for a perfect patient — we're looking for enough truth to build a plan that actually works.
If you've spent years blaming yourself for a problem that never had a simple answer — this is where the story changes.
