Semaglutide Constipation Relief Tips That Work

Semaglutide constipation relief tips are not glamorous. Neither is talking about poop with clinic staff. But I’ll be straight with you, like always: constipation is one of the most common reasons people get frustrated early on, and ignoring it can make the whole experience miserable.

The medication slows digestion. That is part of why food noise gets quieter and you stay full longer. It can also mean your usual bathroom routine suddenly stops cooperating. Not fun. Very fixable in most cases.

Semaglutide constipation relief tips we use in clinic

First, do not wait until you are miserable. At Pacific Northwest Medical Group, we have treated more than 1,300 patients, and our drop-in hours exist partly because little issues become big ones when people try to tough them out alone.

Start with fluids. Many people eat less on semaglutide, then accidentally drink less too. Your body pulls water from the colon when it needs it, which makes stool harder and harder to pass. Keep a drink within reach and sip steadily through the day. Coffee may get things moving for some people, but it is not a hydration plan. Nope.

Next, look at fiber without getting carried away. Adding a mountain of fiber overnight can backfire, especially if your fluid intake is low. I prefer food first: berries, beans, vegetables, oats, pears, and high-fiber whole grains. Add them gradually. If a fiber supplement is something you are considering, talk to us so we can help you make a sensible plan.

Movement helps more than people expect. A short walk after meals, regular resistance-band work, or simply getting up more often can wake up a sluggish digestive system. You do not need a punishing gym kick. Consistency wins.

Protein still comes first

We ask our patients to aim for at least 100 grams of protein daily. That target protects muscle while weight comes off, but it can also expose a problem: someone replaces most meals with dense protein products and leaves almost no room for produce, fluids, or regular meals. Then constipation shows up. Yikes.

Build protein around actual food when you can, and include plants and fluids alongside it. The medication is only half of it. The habits around it decide whether the process is tolerable and sustainable.

If you have severe belly pain, repeated vomiting, a swollen abdomen, cannot pass gas, or have gone several days with worsening symptoms, contact us right away rather than experimenting with random remedies. We start low and step up gradually for a reason. Sometimes the answer is adjusting the plan, not powering through.

I have been on these medications myself and lost more than 60 pounds. I also know the scale is diabolical, and side effects can make you question everything. Do not let constipation turn into a reason to quit a treatment that may be helping. Bring it up. We have heard it all.

You do not need to white-knuckle this alone. Trust the process, but tell us when the process needs help.
