How Semaglutide became the new wonder drug (beyond just weightloss) [The Telegraph]

Hey everyone — The Telegraph published a solid rundown of semaglutide's benefits beyond weight, and I'm summarizing it here because it collects in one place what I've been telling you in pieces all year. (Full article at the bottom.)

The evidence-based list keeps growing:

Obesity management. The one everyone knows — appetite regulation producing significant, sustained weight loss in trials. 15%+ of body weight on average. That's the headline.

Cardiovascular protection. A 20% reduction in major cardiac events in people with existing heart disease — even without diabetes. That's prevention-medicine territory.

Kidney protection. Slower progression of diabetic kidney disease, reduced risk of kidney-related death by over 20%. Your kidneys notice metabolic improvement fast.

Metabolic dysfunction across the board. Blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, fatty liver — the whole cluster that travels with obesity moves in the right direction.

Here's my take as someone who runs a clinic AND takes these medications: "wonder drug" makes me twitchy as a phrase, because no medication is magic and this one needs a program around it — protein, follow-up, dose management. But I understand why journalists reach for the phrase. When one molecule class keeps producing benefits across organ after organ in trial after trial, at some point the pattern speaks for itself.

The science has earned the excitement. Just remember the medication is the start of the story, not the whole story. That's what we're here for.
