"Did you catch Oprah's latest special on March 18th? Here's what you need to know"

Hey everyone — Oprah's "Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution" special aired, and I wanted to share the parts that hit home, because they're the same things we see in clinic every week.
For over two decades, Oprah endured public ridicule about her weight. Tabloids called her "bumpy, lumpy, and downright dumpy" — on covers, for the world to see. And here's a woman with every resource imaginable: trainers, chefs, doctors. If weight were about willpower and access, she'd have solved it thirty years ago.
Her turning point? Realizing her brain simply functioned differently around food than people who stay thin effortlessly. That the battle was biological, not moral. Sound familiar? That's what we tell every new patient on day one — and watching them finally believe it is one of the best parts of this job.
The special also took on the stigma directly: the idea that using medication is "the easy way out." As if decades of shame weren't hard enough, now people get judged for the tool that finally works. I've written about this before — nobody calls blood pressure medication cheating. Obesity is a medical condition, and treating it medically is not a character failure.
After 1,300+ patients, I'll tell you what Oprah got exactly right: the shame was never yours to carry. The biology was never your fault. And the moment someone stops fighting themselves and starts treating the actual condition — everything changes.
If her story sounded like yours, come talk to us.
