Costco getting in on the GLP-1 medication program.

Hey everyone — as you can see from the link below, Costco (with their healthcare partner Sesame) is getting into GLP-1 medications. These medications are genuine game-changers, and on one level it's good to see big names helping more people access them.

But I'd be doing you a disservice if I didn't give you the same honest read I'd give a patient asking about it in clinic.

Costco's model, like most online programs: pay a subscription fee, get connected to a healthcare provider (telehealth) who evaluates you and writes the prescription. It's legitimate — this isn't one of the illegal-pharmacy operations we warned about. But it's the same structural trade-off as every remote program: the medication without the program around it.

No in-person dose management. No 3D scans showing whether you're losing fat or muscle. No protein targets tracked by humans who notice when you drift. No one to sit with when the plateau hits at month three — and the data is brutal on what happens then: 40–65% of patients on minimal-oversight programs quit within a year.

There's also the fine-print question: where's the medication coming from, and does it arrive with your name on the vial from a pharmacy you can verify? Ask that of any program, ours included. Our answer is yes, always, and we're LegitScript certified to prove it.

If Costco gets someone started who'd otherwise never start — good. But if you want the version of this that actually produces lasting results: that's a clinic, with people, who know your name. We're biased. We're also right.
