Our #1 Challenge - Patients Not Eating Enough

Down below is a verbatim (except for the name) email exchange with a patient. 'Patient K' was hitting a plateau after a few months on her medication - and in our discussions in clinic - it appeared she was not consuming much. We were concerned she was in 'starvation mode' - that point where you are getting 30% or less than what your body minimally needs to support itself (also known as the BMR - base metabolic rate)

Patient K was a little older than most and was not comfortable using a food diary app on her phone, so we asked her to write out her food diary the tried and true way - on pen and paper. You can see below where we were able to take her cursive writing - which was fun for some of the younger staff to decipher, and break out her Macronutrients.

The Results show that Patient K is getting well under what she needs, and we will be working with her to adjust dosage of medication and increase her calories in a healthy way. Making sure we focus on the proteins and her water intake.

BTW, We often get feedback that people can find the medications we prescribe online at a 5 to 10% discount, and they literally ask us if we'll drop our prices to match.... We won't, as we belive we provide a lot more service to our patient base to ensure they are successful, and this is just one example of many. We strongly believe that within WA State - patients will not find a better value for what they get!

Real Support, Real Results and Real Transformations. In our motto - the Support part comes first and it is what helps us differentiate from the rest of those just trying to sling out medication to anyone for the lowest price possible.

Best regards,

Daryl, Jennifer, and the entire staff.

Hi K,

Thank you for sharing your food diary with us.  We were able to compute it out for you and have the results below - but we will go over this all in your next weekly visit on Wednesday.

On Wednesday (4/16) your calories were only about 762, on Thursday it was a bit better at 1133.  At the bottom of this message, you’ll see a breakout of where we’d need you to be to ensure you’re getting enough calories for your body to not be in starvation mode and feel like it can safely shed weight.

Anytime your daily calories get below 1233, it stops shedding weight, it slows down your metabolism, and it works hard to hold onto every fat cell it can.

We’d like to see you to be eating optimally between 1250 and about 1450 Calories a day. But for now getting at least 1500 for the next week would probably results in a drop in weight for sure.

Daryl
